Hélène Binet photographs country houses of Jewish landlords (AT)

A collaborative exhibition as part of the University of Oxford's Jewish Country Houses Project

After Strawberry Hill in Twickenham (Sept-Jan 2025) and the Rothschild estate of Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, Hélène Binet’s architectural photographs find their way to the Liebermann-Villa in Berlin. Binet travelled across Europe to photograph historic buildings in Britain, France on the Côte d’Azur, Germany, Berlin, Umbria, Italy and the Czech Republic in Brno, tracing their history. As part of the exhibition, we follow the footsteps of their landlords, united by their Jewish origins. What architectural elements can be observed, what distinguishes the estates from one another? The 10-year Oxford University research project ‘Jewish Country Houses’ provides the framework for the exhibition series.
