Liebermann's Prints

In addition to his impressive painterly oeuvre, printmaking also played an important role for Max Liebermann – over 600 motifs, executed as etchings, lithographs and woodcuts, are now distributed in museums and private collections across the world. To mark the artist’s 175th birthday, this exhibition will provide an introduction to Liebermann’s prints. How did Liebermann discover etching as a technique? How did his lithographs come about? And why did he attach so much importance to his graphic works?
