Vision and illusion. Architectural photographs by Hélène Binet
A collaborative exhibition as part of the Jewish Country Houses Project of the University of Oxford
After exhibitions at Strawberry Hill, Twickenham (Sept 2024 – Jan 2025) and the Rothschild estate of Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire (March – June 2025), Hélène Binet’s architectural photographs will now be shown at the Liebermann-Villa am Wannsee in Berlin. Binet travelled across Europe to photograph historic buildings in the UK, France specifically on the Côte d’Azur, Germany in Berlin, Umbria in Italy and the Czech Republic in Brno, tracing their history. As part of the exhibition, we will follow the footsteps of their owners, united by their Jewish origins. What architectural elements can be observed, what distinguishes these estates from one another? The 10-year Oxford University research project ‘Jewish Country Houses’ provides the framework for the exhibition series.
