Declaration on accessibility

What is the purpose of this declaration?

As a public cultural institution, we are legally required to design our digital services in a way that allows everyone to access them, regardless of their abilities or limitations. This obligation is based on the Disability Equality Act (BGG) and the Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV). This declaration provides information on the current accessibility of our website, the measures we have implemented, and our future plans.

What have we already accomplished?

We conducted tests on our website based on the steps outlined in EN 301 549, in conjunction with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1). Both automated test procedures and manual tests were implemented by experts. All errors detected by automated tests have been fully resolved. Specifically, issues relating to colour and contrast were eliminated; such as text and operational elements with inadequate contrast ratios. Form functions have also been improved to make input errors clearer and easier to recognise.

Which barriers remain?

During the manual check, various barriers were identified that have not yet been fully resolved.

For example, many informative images lack so-called alternative texts. These are necessary so that screen readers can make the image content accessible to blind or visually impaired users. There are also issues with keyboard navigation: some hidden or invisible elements can be accessed using the tab key, which hinders operation. In addition, the visible focus is not always clearly recognizable during navigation. Another issue concerns the semantic structure of the website. Several places lack structural markings that allow screen readers to easily recognize important content areas. Some form fields also have unclear associations between the inscription and the input field.

What’s the next step?

We are actively working on adding missing alternative texts for all images. We will revise the keyboard operation. We are also improving the semantic structure of the website as well. Older contents, such as inaccessible PDF files, will be gradually revised or replaced with accessible alternatives.
