On to new works! Max Slevogt, Bruno Cassirer and Max Liebermann

This temporary exhibition explores the almost 30-year collaboration between the painter and illustrator Max Slevogt and the publisher Bruno Cassirer – a creative partnership that played a decisive role in establishing Slevogt as a leading figure of German Impressionism. Cassirer’s influence within the cultural scene gave Slevogt artistic freedom and encouraged his innovative approach to illustrated books. In particular, their shared passion for drawing opened up new creative possibilities. Through his influential journal „Kunst und Künstler“, Cassirer played a pivotal role in shaping the art-theoretical discourse of his time. Together, they created works that are now regarded as milestones in artistic book illustration.
